Juniperus virginiana 'Grey Owl' is a low, spreading evergreen shrub valued for its soft, silvery-gray foliage and graceful, arching branches. A selection of Eastern red cedar, it typically grows 2 to 3 feet tall and spreads 6 to 8 feet wide, forming a broad, mounded shape that works well as a groundcover, mass planting, or accent in mixed borders. It thrives in full sun and is highly tolerant of drought, heat, poor soil, and urban conditions once established. Hardy in USDA zones 3 to 9, 'Grey Owl' is also deer-resistant and very low-maintenance. Its fine-textured foliage and muted color offer excellent contrast in the landscape, especially when paired with darker evergreens or flowering shrubs.
