Blue Maid Holly is a vigorous, female broadleaf evergreen holly renowned for its outstanding production of bright red berries that persist well into winter, providing bold seasonal color and important food for birds. Growing 10 to 12 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide, this meserveae holly features dark, glossy blue-green leaves with spiny margins that maintain their rich color throughout the year, even in harsh winters. For optimal berry production, a male pollinator such as 'Blue Prince' should be planted nearby. Blue Maid thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Its combination of striking evergreen foliage, exceptional cold hardiness (to zone 4), and abundant winter berries makes it one of the most valuable hollies for northern landscapes.
