Shenandoah Switch Grass

Panicum virgatum 'Shenandoah', commonly known as Switchgrass 'Shenandoah', is a standout ornamental grass prized for its graceful habit and vibrant foliage. This cultivar forms clumps of upright stems that emerge blue-green in spring, gradually maturing to a rich burgundy-red by midsummer. The foliage intensifies in color as the season progresses, reaching its peak in the fall when it develops deep shades of red and purple. In late summer, airy panicles of tiny, purplish flowers rise above the foliage, adding a delicate touch to the landscape. 'Shenandoah' thrives in full sun and well-drained soil but can tolerate a wide range of soil types, including clay and sandy soils. It is drought-tolerant once established and is relatively low-maintenance, requiring little to no supplemental watering or fertilization.
