Porcupine Grass

Miscanthus sinensis 'Strictus', commonly known as Porcupine Grass or Japanese Silver Grass, is an eye-catching ornamental grass prized for its striking foliage and upright habit. This cultivar features distinctive horizontally banded leaves with alternating bands of green and creamy yellow, resembling the quills of a porcupine, hence its common name. The foliage forms dense clumps that typically reach a height of 4 to 6 feet, adding vertical interest to garden landscapes. In late summer to early fall, 'Strictus' produces feathery coppery-pink flower plumes that rise above the foliage, adding a soft, airy texture to the garden.
